The Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG’s) CHECS Web Application, TCHECS, is provided to support each TCSG College in the processing of state aid (HOPE and Zell Miller Grant, and HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship). TCSG will submit and receive data files on behalf of each college. The information received from CHECS files will be displayed throughout the TCHECS application while having this same information stored in Banner tables. The college will view student detailed information within TCHECS and use the information in Banner rules.
The College HOPE Eligibility Calculation Service, CHECS, is provided by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) and is designed to provide a centralized HOPE GPA calculation system for the academic eligibility of HOPE Scholarship, Zell Miller Scholarship, HOPE Grant, and Zell Miller Grant students attending HOPE-eligible postsecondary institutions (PSIs) throughout the state of Georgia. Additionally, CHECS will provide data for a GAfutures student view option to check HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship or Grant statuses.
The calculation includes the HOPE GPA, Checkpoints, Attempted Hours and Paid Hours for the students. Program Eligibility will be determined for each college utilizing the status information provided by CHECS. CHECS only addresses academic eligibility, not other program eligibility requirements as defined in the Program Regulations. CHECS uses a set of GPA and hours calculation business rules developed according to current program regulations.
